How do changing winds factor in on your trapline? I’ll be making some sets Thursday and planning to run them two weeks. Predominant wind direction is out of the north for this time of year generally. For the first 7 days after setting we will have wind out of the west and south mostly. Not sure what it will be for the second week. I will set on top of sign as much as possible, but will have to be careful about tractors on the roads and in the fields if they haven’t finished all their work. Figuring that most animals are going to work with their nose into the wind and wanting to make sure the predators can smell the sets would you punch in twice the sets in every location to cover extra directions? Add visual appeal to give them another way to find the set if wind is wrong?

Multiple sets is probably your best option. I hope you catch a bunch.

Most of our roads are either N/S or E/W. Our predominant wind is NE, but I always put at least two sets at every location that covers every possible wind direction. If one produces and there are multiple critters, when they circle what’s caught they have the possibility of catching the scent of the other set. I pretty much know what sets will catch just based on wind direction of that evening.

Yep, if setting an edge, do so upwind, then make some flat sets out in the field (assuming you're trapping farm ground). You could always catch that one that runs right out in the middle of the field. K9 trapping anyway, that's what I do.

Act like a blank, get treated like a blank. Insert your own blank!
