Caught my first fisher. Nice male 43” long. Only get a tag every 2 years so I was really happy. Caught in a cubby with a belisle 160. Used a chunk of bear meat and gusto for lure. Caught him on camera as he approached the cubby. Getting a full body mount and having the taxidermist leave the porcupine quill in face. Question for guys that trap fishers, is it common for a 160 not to finish the job. Was a good catch but he was very much alive and I had to dispatch him with a few thumps. Didn’t expect that.

Have no clue about that trap size and/or Fishers, but that is one cool looking critter!

Maybe, it looked like a good hit on the neck. Was really surprised he was alive and moving around. Taxidermist thought maybe he had his head turned some so it didn’t snap the neck good.

Maybe he wasn’t in enough and it hit head first and slid into neck. I had the trigger at the top and the wires spread in a V straight down. I see some guys bend the wires inward towards bait. Always been a foothold trapper, first time using conibears, so I’m learning.

I released one 2 yrs ago that was caught similar in a 155. I think it spans the shoulders just right and there is not enough contact with the spine and they can breathe fine. Guessing it would eventually finish the job but we check daily so I imagine mine was caught that morning and I checked within an hour of him getting caught.

Nice fisher!
