I think I'd like to buy my 1st climbing tree stand & just did a search & this is the only thread I could find.
Anyway, is anybody aware of a good value right now on a quality climber tree stand? I'm planning ahead for next year.

I will have to give that mod a try. Just used my Lonewolf tonight. Only climbing stand I have ever used.

I haven't done much hunting in years but I tried many and settled on the old man climber after trying many others.

The multivision could be sat facing the tree or away. This was before they had the removable bar.

One hack on those is to sharpen a bevel on the teeth that hit the tree as the old man is known for a tendency to not bite into slick hard barked species. They will slip if that happens. I always jammed it in hard because of that.

The big thing I liked was that it folded down flat and was easily packed in.

If packing it in isn't an issue and I could haul it in on an atv the gunslinger would be on my bucket list.

But I will say anything by Summit will be good as all that I've used were built (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) for stout. But you'll trade stoutness for weight and bulk.

Indeed ease of packing it in is important Warrior.

We have 2 summits and I still use an old loggy I got when I was 14.

My boys can use the summits and get up the trees ok. I have the youngest carry the loggy in becuse it's so much lighter for him. Then I put the boys in the summits. They are very comfortable for them compared to sitting in my old loggy. But once the loggy is in place and the seat is up the loggy will not slip. The summits will slip, they are crazy heavy, and they won't go on trees as small or as big as the old loggy.

Can’t say I’ve ever had an issue with skinny trees with my Viper. I have just the opposite issue, finding a tree that’s small enough. Most of our pines I end up climbing with maybe the last two “teeth” on either side of the stand biting into the tree.

The biggest downside of climbers is probably the fact that branches get in the way

Stay far away from LW stands right now. They are not in a good way in terms of replacement parts. Long story short is the company who had the licensing to produce the stands just ignored the owner of said products and there was some quality issues. Licensing is now revoked, owner is gearing back up with the help of his son. If you could get parts, sure but there are no traction belts being made currently.

To echo what above has said I have 2 stands. A summit cobra(bowhunting) and summit viper(gun hunting) both are from 1997. I wont buy any new ones because these are still going strong. You will want to buy new cables when yours look worn. Always wear your harness.

It seems every hunter should have a climber stand in their arsenal.
