LOL, I've had a few give me permission to hunt on land, THAT WASNT THEIRS.

Also, most are not shy about trespassing.
They hit a LOT of public land and push it hard.

Some here kill all their deer, log all their timber, sell the topsoil then sand and or gravel.
Then make furniture, pole barns, etc

Or move to Missouri/ Kentucky.

You must have a completely different type of Amish around you. Most of the ones I know don’t even hunt and nearly all of them are good, hard-working, honest people.

Eh...wot?

This is spot on.

Different around here. The ones around here are very skilled carpenters, wood workers, leather peoples and so on. Yes, some take advantage of selling "Amish made" goods but people buy them so good for them.

Also, all Amish hunt, trap, and fish. They will not give you permission to do anything on their land. Believe me I tried, they won't even give permission to trap coon or groundhogs. The only complaint that I have about them is they over fish, hunt and trap. They will take everything they catch. 2 3 4 inch bluegill, they fill buckets with them. Scale and gut them then grind up in patties. Not all, but a lot, leave no seed for future fishing and such.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Where else are you going to see a horse-drawn, gas powered riding lawnmower? Amish are all over the place here.

Been around them for over 30 years, have a few Amish friends that left the Old Order Amish church, and now drive their trucks and mini vans. I have bought them wine and booze, since they did not want to be seen in the liquor store.Too busy with heavy around Lancaster and Chester Counties for horse drawn carriages. Many terrible accidents each year, so I can't blame them for leaving I share my Catholic school ( 12 years) stories and they share their Old Order Amish bishop stories, both are cult-like in many ways.

Lots of VERY wealthy Amish around here, they invest heavily in real estate rentals. Actually drive the market up around Coatesville and Parkesburg buying rentals in bad neighborhoods and letting someone else manage them.....

There used to be a bakery by Chippewa Falls WI that was Amish run. My old boss used to go on and on about the huge pies they sold and they only cost $5-$8 depending. My boss bought over 50 pies giving them out to family and of course eating them himself.

About a year later I happen to be traveling through Chippewa falls so I called the old boss to see where they were located. He said the health department closed them down and he ended up throwing 15 pies away Hahaha

Find that with the Amish around us. They have the wonder lust but also helps with inter breeding.

Typically, they have a falling out over doctrine.
They move a LOT.

I agree with DaveP. It's not wonder lust, it's disagreements with the Bishop of their sect. I lived near a sect that owned everything on both sides of a long road. They had sawmills that I got slab wood from, they had leather harness shops, furniture shops and so on. We traded goods and services and it was great. They had a big tadoo with the Bishop because he banned smoking.

The Bishop said no more smoking and the fella's loved smoking those cigar cigarettes'. So they packed up, sold out, and moved to Missouri and started there own sect. I sure missed them, the ones that moved in were old order and didn't care to have anything to do with the English.

Like any group of people they have all kinds. I feel they are dishonest when they set up at the farmers markets and give the impression what they are selling was grown by the community. It's not it's purchased and resold. Nothing wrong with that that's 99% of retailers but to give the impression that is a home grown product without clarification does seem like lying by omission to me.

Graber Post and Dinky's Auction Barn? Used go there every Friday night
