Gee, the French surrendering again? What a shock! I hope we don't have to go save them again any time soon. What a bunch of sheep!
French Surrender Firearms in Record Numbers During Government Crackdown
French gun owners are surrendering their weapons in record numbers at police collection points across the country as a round up of unlicensed firearms winds down.
France is keen to limit the number of illegally owned firearms – as many as six million, authorities estimate – and the Macron government is offering an amnesty in an effort to limit their distribution.
Rifles, handguns, ammunition, even knives and grenades, have been handed in at 300 collection points across the country since the start of the Ministry of Interior’s campaign on Nov. 25.
Those who bring in the weapons face no penalties and their offerings will be destroyed.
By Wednesday, Reuters reports 65,000 firearms of all types had been turned in, along with 1.6 million bullets and other projectiles.
“This campaign is here to help French people surrender these objects that are rather cumbersome for most,” police commandant Florence Gavello said at the collection point in Nice.
Other authorities shared that optimism of a national disarmament, in keeping with other efforts in countries as far away as Australia to take weapons away from law abiding citizens.
“We believe there are about 5 or 6 million weapons that are being kept in an irregular manner by our fellow citizens,” said Jean-Simon Merandat, Head of the Interior Ministry’s Central Service for Arms and Explosives.
“Eighty to ninety percent of these weapons are in their possession due to an inheritance.”
“When we talk to them, they’re quite happy about … getting rid of them.”
The campaign ends Friday, after which collected weapons will either be handed over to museums or destroyed.
With a population of 67 million people, France has proportionally much fewer guns than countries such as the U.S.
I BELIEVE IN MY GOD, MY COUNTRY AND IN MYSELF.

The French flag should be solid white...
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Ya didn’t it only take like 2 weeks for Germany to take over their whole country? It doesn’t surprise me. What all of the idiots that turn their guns in and the government fail to realize are that criminals are not turning their guns in. So where is your protection when thugs come knocking? Thats why their bread looks like a club ya see. Ya can always clobber an intruder with a stale baguette. For most French that would be enough for them to wave a white hanky and Surender. Anyone want to buy a French army knife ??

It will happen here too. The pandemic was a great look into human nature. Fear - Freedom = Safety was quite frankly welcomed by the masses.

I like French firearms. They have never been fired and only dropped once.
I have nothing clever to put here.

But that's okay, first step in fixing this mess will be dealing with the city idiots.

Better to die on your feet Than live on your knees! Ready to die bloody!! Just bring it!!!!!!! While I agree there was more pushback in the south, in many ways we complied. Medical and military folks are required to follow a mandate. Then you have states like Michigan. Their governor tried to prevent them from something as basic as gardening and the people reelected her. Folks of that nature will willingly surrender their firearms or as warrior mentioned gladly turn in their neighbor.

they say the majority of these arms are acquired as a result of inheritance.
to many that would read , grandpa had a shotgun and passed it down to his grandson , who is not uninterested in the family heirloom.
However in the post WW context of occupied France , this more than likely means everyone scavenged guns during and after the war and now that almost none of that generation is left. a generation that was never going to be caught unarmed again. the next generations have no idea what to do with the pistols , rifles , sub machine guns their parents and grand parents have stored out of sight for 70 years.
the French should be armed same as any nation , every citizen able to purchase and carry a firearm. however that is not how most nations operate the US being the closest to operating that way.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

The people who come to your door to take your firearms, if it comes to that, will not be the police. They will be wearing helmets that look like this. Nope they will wear helmets that color with a bunch of holes in them if they turn up in this neck of the woods.
