So now cow trucks are going to have to plan routes around pens where cattle can be unloaded. This will add cost two ways. Cost the pen charge and loss of cattle due to stress.

sure is a good thing that elemenohpee heading up the D.O.T. is such a fart smeller I mean smart feller

And of course the rule makers have never hauled livestock, or anything else for that matter. Making rules for something you know nothing about is brilliant.

$4.10 a pound includes everything, right to your table whole/half or qtr. LOL that was our price this fall.

As I read it the livestock haulers have been meeting the hours of work regs but requested an exemption which was denied. If that is the case, why would anything change? I am not supporting the ruling, just pointing out that the denial of the exemption request should not cause a price increase.

IMO the hours of work regs passed in 2018 have been a disaster and were incredibly short sighted. The regs required more trucks on the road to move the same cargo which meant more rest area parking was instantly needed. Of course none was available so trucks are pulled off into breakdown lanes going in and out of rest areas, on entrance/exit ramps and any other place they happen to be when time is running out.

Now if the Musky losers would let me spear those fresh water coyotes instead of just Pike, I'd really be living.

Bees generate their own heat and a stop of less than hour can result in heavy losses.

as long as there are deer making themselves available, the beef will be on the back burner.

We have big manure tankers that haul 5,000 gallons a load going day and night here for a few weeks in the spring and over a month in the fall plus 3-5 crops of hay and corn silage. Most drivers for the farms don't have CDLs.
There was a manure spill, (truck tipped over) about 10 miles from me. No serious injuries but the driver was found to be impaired due to drugs, so was his girl friend riding with him. The police checked the other drivers for that firm and found 5 others that were high as well.

I see a large price increase as I build some fence and a walk in cooler. But then a massive decrease as the lowered price averages out over a few years.

I would assume the shift will be more kill , half , chill operations happen close to the pens and then they are trucked in reefers to destination.

dry aged at 65mph

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Pete there are cow calf operations all over the U.S. 75-80% of the calves are trucked to TX panhandle, Ok panhandle, west KS or east Co. to be finished. Once they are fed up to kill weight its just a short hop to the big processers. Its those calves going from Ravens Gap GA to Dumas TX that will be affected.

Danny is right- it is more economical to ship light calves to the feed than to ship the feed to the light calves.

I got news for the feds tho- no matter if you off load them or not, weanling calves wont eat or drink. The need to bawl for a while before they will gain anything. Livestock shippers know this and therefore the answer could be to load teams (2 men in 2 truck) but like Danny pointed out- that doubles the cost associated with trucking labor and it will get passed on to the consumer in the end,
