Id like to learn more about the Spring beaver migration , when it occurs in your area, how long it lasts, do you see a shorter period of intense movement, do you catch large numbers during this time?

We're in open water year round here but I see new beaver moving in during heavy flooding periods during winter and early early spring. Our season is over by March 15th so I know not much of what happens after that. Could be that beaver are displaced by high water and move. Some of the old timers used to say that during high water beaver move upstream and low water the opposite. I think that is probably correct from my observations.

Of course bigger rivers have different dynamics than pond or little creek beaver.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

As soon as the ice goes out and the water starts to rise on the spring freshet the beaver will be moving.
When the water receeds back to normal levels after two or 3 weeks, the beaver wind down their travels.
Rain is a trigger-make sure your traps are ready before a rain event.
Where I am, in summer when the creeks drop real low or dry up,beaver move into bigger rivers or lakes.
During the September rains here beaver have another mini migration-they move from the lakes and rivers back up into the newly swolen streams and creeks and start building for winter.
You can harvest huge numbers of beavers in a short period of time in spring.
Where I am some years we will get 2 or even 3 weeks of open water before the season closes on May 15.Many years we only get 4 or 5 days before end of season.
Back when pelts brought more money trappers often hunted beaver on the rivers in spring,20 beaver in a day was not uncommon shooting.Dont see that anymore.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.
