I have a water pump that suffered a freeze and cracked the housing. I replaced the housing and it pumps water but it struggles to reach the shutoff pressure. Same motor and everything else, the housing is the only thing new.

?

Jet pump? If by chance a piece of the housing , impeller or other debris got in the system, it will wind up in the foot valve and keep it from working properly. Only takes a tiny 'speck' of trash to do this, and the pump won't / can't build pressure.

Sounds like a suction leak somewhere- maybe check your pressure switch inlet to make sure it's not obstructed?

Yes, Jet pump.

Thanks, I’ll start with Eagleye, Gary, yours sounds a bit involved.

Got plenty of water, it just struggles to shutoff when the water is not in use. Bladder tank is good so it shouldn’t be waterlogged.

Couldn’t tell you, just a guess, it’s probably 18 years old.

Another question. Is the pump offset from the well casing, or mounted on top of the casing? If a "direct" mount, it's very easy to twist the pipes going into the casing and that breaks the seal between the casing and the foot valve. If that happens, pump won't build pressure and the pipes have to be pulled and the seal replaced.....don't ask how I know this, lol.

I’m thinking the pressure switch. I managed to take a look at it in between the rain showers. I touched the pressure switch to take the cap off and it shut off. Could be a coincidence I guess.

The switch probably froze too and may have a air leak or the adjustment changed slightly.

Does pressure switch have a nipple from the pipe to the switch, it could be particularly plugged not letting full pressure to the switch.

Since my accidental fix earlier today, it appears to be in working order. Until it fails again I’m leaving it alone. I have saved this thread as my check list when it does.

I appreciate everybody’s thoughts and suggestions.
