Anybody’s kid ever ride a sheep in a mutton bustin contest?

I have a six year old in Denver that would love it, but has never been on a sheep.

National Western Stock Show is in a month.

My boy did for a couple years. They had a small circuit close by and had it every other weekend all summer.

most rodeos require them to have on a long sleeve shirt, boots and a cowboy hat. if you want the kid to have a helmet those youth hockey helmets are great. can get one that will fit. . some let them wear spurs and some dont. if your kid uses spurs lay it on an anvil or something and smack the rivet holding the rowel so it wont turn anymore.

Here is a video by a European woman attending her first rodeo. The kids part including mutton busting starts about 4:30. Her reactions are pretty funny. Rodeo

My older ones did.
Used to be a small rodeo come by once a year.
First, in a field near my house, and after buildings sprouted, at the fairgrounds.

Best part was all the young Amish guys trying to win the " stay on for 8, win $500" bull riding prize.

Never saw one make it, lol

I'm sure the folks running the Denver Stock Show and Rodeo will have safety vests and helmets for the kids to wear , my advice is to get the kid to hang on tight then have fun some of the more successful riders I've seen rode looking at the back end of the sheep for whatever reason .
As a part time camera opp at rodeos mutton busting is a fan favorite and chances are he'll be on the Cowboy Channel so his friends and family can watch him ride to victory ha ha !

my 3 yo grand daughter has ridden two so far. She loved it and asks every morning when she gets to ride again. Last week after her ma told her they weren't having the sheep again for awhile she told her ma "well fine, I know they have bulls every week, I'll just ride one of them" LOL

Tx born and bred, tough as nails !!!! She rides them down by Lavernia Tx and they have the head gear and vests for them. Really cool deal.

Go for it, Charles. It's a hoot, and kids learn good riding skills at a young age. They have such fun riding.

Hoss, that photo is so cute !

Thanks he was a fun kiddo to raise. A lot of ppl compliment me on his rodeo wins or abilities with a skittish horse, but I am here to tell you he is extra handy with a rifle or a fishing pole too.

This is what a doe looks like where Yes Sir comes from. I think Clayton Thomas was either 9 or 10 in this picture so it's been a while.
