I don't think you use actual wax... The stuff they sell is a liquidy product you brush on, probably a lanolin linseed oil mix,...

Try heating it up and wiping of the excess.

Waterproofing cloth leather etc
! pound beeswax
1 cup linseed oil
1 cup turpentine
Melt beeswax.
turn off heat.
Add linseed oil slowly while mixing
Add turpentine slowly while mixing
Cool til hardened.
Rub on item to be waterproofed.
Rub off excess
Rub it in real good.
Heat item and rub again.
There you go. simple

The wax coat I bought comes with a spray can of wax-you can spray it down each season.It is a liquid wax with a consistancy of oil and doesnt harden,lol.
In the old days they called them oilskins.

Thanks for all the input. I went with an Outback trading 5020 bush ranger duster jacket. It has the extra shoulder panels making it a bit more breathable and gives it a double layer on the side the wain comes from.

Great choice! Duster / Drover will serve you well for many years. Just make sure you hang it up after getting rained / wet on and let it thoroughly dry before putting it in a closet :-)
