Probably only valuable to someone wanting to dress up a vintage rifle in a period appropriate scope.

I don't know value but I still run a couple just like those. One in my 7mm rem mag, the other in my old 8mm Mauser from '43. The one in the Mauser is the old knock off style (not sure if that's the appropriate term). Both still work great.

We had a lot of old weavers in the 60s and 70s before we bought Redfields

Yes, not high dollar value but definitely worth something to collectors of vintage glass.

I came across a company on the net recently that specializes in refurbishing old glass like that. All levels from simple clean and touch up to total tear down and rebuild with modern glass to better than original. Even their top of the line stuff was on a par price wise with modern glass.

I can't recall the name though.

a newer old weaver you might get a kick out of

this is an early red dot and a very cool idea, the bottom tube is where you look so it has a really low bore axis to sight
the upper gathers the light with a fiber optic tube then projects it on the lens below
if you have an astigmatism it is the crispest dot you may have ever seen because it isn't an led projecting
it is a fairly big dot

My dad has one of those on a model 70 Winchester chambered in 225. Killed a lot of coyotes with that gun when I was a kid.

I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.

Green,
I had one of those red dots on my Ithaca deerslayer 52 years ago. Super easy to acquire the running deer. However, after it broke the second time the gun went to a gunsmith and had a Remington rifle ramp put on the front and a Williams receiver sight attached to the receiver. About 45 years later it still sits like that and kills deer. Light gun, easy to carry.

Wolfdog,
That's a pretty old 742, pressed basket weave checkering.

I have that exact scope on a vintage 1954 model 70 Winchester in .257 Roberts caliber. It still does what it is supposed to do and is period correct. I always liked the looks of the blued steel tubed scopes.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Is Weaver a good brand? Is it anywhere close to Vortex?

weaver had some good stuff in the 50-90s by the 2000s they seemed to be have faded and are mostly mounts , rings and bases , they do still sell scopes it used to be everyone carried them now a lot of places don't.

the brand image took a turn when they started putting their name on cheap china junk on package rifles.

also understand Vortex wasn't even a brand till 2001-2002 they were Wild birds unlimited a birding optics retailer outside of Madison Wisconsin they parents had spent their careers in sporting goods having run several stores and had their own store they knew the ins and outs of sporting optics and were having other companies make them what they wanted to sell to customers. then their sons got into shooting and hunting and they took the family business in a new direction.
the original Vortex building was the Wild Birds unlimited store.
