I spend a ton of time outdoors and would like better sun protection from a hat. What hat provides decent sun protection, looks decent but doesn't leave you looking like a Texan in rut at a Honky Tonk?

Need a good straw hat with holes in it.
Shades your face, nose, and ears, but don’t get so hot you don’t want to wear it.

Wide brim protect your ears.

Many good gardening hats actually fit the bill, unless you want to wear a Mexican sombrero..
You’ll have to shape it though, if you want it looking like the Marlboro man! Lol

I've been wearing a gardening type hat but to say it looks a bit dopey is an understatement. I want something in-between the "look at me" Cowboy hats and the dopey "I'm a 75 year old gardener who bought a discount walmart hat" look.

it is going to depend on the time of year and temperature

I like my Tilley https://www.tilley.com/products/t3-...d-he9mS9cgX4JyPm4in20wnIdrQaAjjgEALw_wcB

now that it is getting colder I like my knit wool caps , my wife knits them large enough that they don't pull up like a bottle nipple on top my head like most store hats do,I have a big head

when it get warmer I have a hat similar to a tilley but my another company that has a wide brim ,is a lighter tan and has mesh around the top for better cooling and a deeper crown

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I'm with Greencountypete tho I have a different tilley

winter I find most knit hats aren't good for outdoor work, they slide around, get caught on sticks branches and pulled off or over your face.
Gotta get on thats tight on the old nogin.

Ok exactly what is wrong with looking like a Texan in rut at the honky tonks?

There is a regional dress difference. Texas is much flashier, much more colorful. We dress somewhere in between Texan and Amish. Up here we have more Nordic blood, since we're tall and good looking we don't have to use flash to draw more attention to ourselves.

My daughter is over in London England and went into a famous hat store and got into a long conservation with a sales person. The hat she was looking for was made in Australia?New Zealand and made with a type of sheep they have there and beaver felt.@ 395 pounds (1.60/dollar) When she told the person that she had gone trapping with her dad beaver....the guys eyes feel out of his sockets. Twenty minutes later she had several employees asking multiple questions....she could not barter a reduced price
( now I wonder what my Xmas present may be.....a Outback down under hat //????)

Thank the popularity of the Yellowstone series for driving the price of beaver up.

my warm weather hat is basically that ltm-5 with mesh further down the sides nearly all the way to the band but made by a different company

I will admit branches do some times pull my knit hat off
I really want a Jeep cap that fits but since I had to get my wife to make me a stocking hat that fit I am not sure that will happen

I may go with a stormy Kromer they make one in a size 8

There is no hat for all seasons. Fot summer the best protection from the sun is a big straw or palm leaf hat. The bigger the better I say but you have to shape it, or someone will accuse you of going full Guatemalin.
