Do you put the trap just inside the cubby, on the edge of the front entrance to the cubby or just outside the cubby?

Depends. If it is a walk thru, set just inside each end with stepping sticks. If its a true cubby concealing a bait and one opening, set just outside the opening with guide and stepping sticks to make cat step on trap when he approaches the opening. Snares and a bit of fencing will get him or another one while circling the bait cubby or walk thru.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Good tip.

Make your cubbies a walk through type or big enough that they can turn around in . Just put a roof over it but leave the walls so you can see through them . Set the trap under roof and your good for any kind of weather ! ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2022/12/full-34075-159797-0101211353.jpg) It should look alittle something like this ! AJE,Some of my cubbies are 10 or 12 years old . I just freshen them up each year and add a few more to my line every year. If i catch a cat then the following year i skip that cubbie . Notice the picture with the cat . Some of the branches are old and dried out and just fresh branches on top to help shed the rain. I always run exposed traps with cats inside the cubbies . It gives the cat someplace to step and staying dry they stay working all year even with several feet of snow !

I use steel barrels so I set just off the lip of the barrels, I brush them in and extend the top coverings to help cover the trap from the weather.

Over the barrel to blend it a bit I use blockers to guide to the trap, we have a lot of dead elms here so sheets of bark are easy to come by for protection of the trap from the weather.
