It's a viable option, I prefer to separate investment institutions from banking activities. TDA- soon to be Schwab offers Bank CD's and Brokered CD's. Depending on what you're looking for, I believe some of their Bank CD's are even callable- operating similar to a preferred stock that the bank can redeem prior to maturity at a given price. The interest rates might be more alluring than your local bank branch but just understand the nuisances between each offering, I believe even Brokered CD's are subject to $250,000 FDIC protection. In addition, I started with Scottrade, now TDA soon to be Schwab... not insurmountable but one more dashboard to relearn which is alwatys a hassle.
