I've been trapping on and off, mostly on, since I was 10(44 now) and I finally caught my first mink in a pocket set I made for mink!! I don't trap heavily, with maybe 15 or so multi species sets out at a time(unless trapping rat huts when I run up to 100). Now, I've caught quite a few mink in those many years but mostly while trapping rats in their huts in winter(legal here) but I've never caught a mink in a set made specifically for mink. Why it took that long? Many reasons, including -not ever seriously targeting mink, not having confidence in my sets, not looking or setting on sign but just making sets in areas that "looked decent", sloppy sets that allowed mink to avoid traps, leaving way to much sign/altering areas around.my sets, checking to often and not worrying about foot prints, not making enough sets, and I ALWAYS used mink gland lure(which I learned here will cause some mink to shy away from the set). I'd just like to thank everyone who has taken the time to educate other's with what they've learned and were generous enough to pass that hard earned knowledge on to others!! I for one am grateful for this site and am grateful for the opportunity to learn from those who care enough about our sport and lifestyle to pass it on to others, young or old, for nothing more than a thank you in return! I've poured over every bit of information I could find and took that info and connected! I've never had much of a problem connecting with target animals be it,otter, beaver, muskrats, badger, weasel,or even snaring coyote! But (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) that first targeted mink took FOREVER!! I felt like I had never caught a mink before when I pulled it up outta the depths! It definitely pays to educate yourself as much as possible and then use that info and TRUST IT! Best part was my daughter was with me and got to share in the experience!! Sorry about the rambling but after reflecting on the moment I realized it was so much more than just catching a mink. My surmon is complete😆👍
