I was wondering about muskrat sizes. This list is the latest measure.

NAFA fur stretch size -- Musquash size-- length

3X - over 17”

2XL 15.5"-17" 39-43 cm

XL 14-15.5" 35-39 cm

LGE 12.5-14" 32-35 cm

MED 11-12.5" 28-32 cm

SML 9.5-11" 24-28 cm

X-SM Under 9.5" Under 24 cm

And of course it has to be with in a general width on a stretcher.

Generally the 6.5 inch average. Some will vary with size. A large 3X will fill a wire stretcher.

When the pelt is sold through the auction houses, their measured as per sq. Inches or Centimeters.

So don't over stretch the hide. Keep it uniform and clean.

Go after them this year even if the price is down. Put them up. I had some I sent off and got tanned.

Hold them if you wish. Some were from 2016 vacuumed packed. They don't eat anything.

With no air in the fur, it lasts a long time.

Any questions on the grades I've mentioned.

I thought that I had a gauge made up, but not.

Have to get a new board of some size to measure with.

Put an eye hook and hang it up. Somewhere to be seen.

I always question fur buyers when they say "your fur", mine, is not to size. So I will bring along my gauge for measure.

A large to Xlarge rat is worth more than a medium by the overall scale of square inches.

But not only "$.50" for a medium compared to an $1.50 for an XL. No. I won't do that.

I once tried to size rats on the NAFA standard and realized they changed it, if I remember right, 3 times in about 25 years. Good Luck!

Another tip don't use wire stretchers on rats, you'll do better on wood.
