They are the wolves of the waterways. Unlike Louisiana we have no alligator to keep them in check . Nothing bothers them here. So pretty much they are an apex predator .

Our water river system has become channels to transport water. Any deep pools that used to hold minnows, frogs, crayfish are empty. Add in our plant invasive Phragmites, and our wildlife system is pathetic

Yep. A friend's small mouth hole on 14 mile creek no longer has any fish. And I'm required by law to release all bobcats that get into my k9 sets. I only trap to get rid of predators on my farm and friends place these days. The bobcats and otter qualifies .

I don't start trapping tell Jan normally and by then our quota on otter have normally been met and seasion is closed. But those that get into my beaver sets have to be turned over th the DNR. Makes since.

They truly are destroying our fishery.

Trapper being upset because thermal hunters are “taking their $ away” is the same mindset we had for years from dog hog hunters toward everyone else.
The landowners wanted the hogs GONE but the dog hog hunters didn’t want anyone else in on their game. Saw multiple posts online where they really didn’t want all the hogs killed because that would end their fun.
Well the landowners finally figured this out, plus many of the dog hog hunters were actually taking the hogs elsewhere and turning them loose instead of killing them. So the landowners turned to hog trappers and thermal hunters who can kill dozens per night and do it.

It is possible to cut your own throat.

Recently ran into landowners in TX talking about getting paid to let houndsmen run coyotes. Everyone of them complaining about to many coyotes too.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Same as that bunch crying about the damage the wild hogs cause, then turn around and want a bunch of money of you to hunt them on their land.

While we are at it, as of January 6th, Walmart customers will be required to unload incoming semi trucks at the loading dock of their local Walmart. This is in addition to the usual self check out duties.
