Take time to remember the service members from the 101st Airborne unit that lost their lives on the flight in 1985. Also rember the 8 crew members. I believe there were 248 soldiers. They were returning from a deployment in Egypt and on the last leg from Gander, Newfoundland when the plane went down shortly after takeoff. One of the worst crashes in Canadian history. Rarely do you hear of this, but I felt it was important to mention this on this anniversary.

I was in the Sinai in 1993. I had never heard about this crash at the time. We flew a direct flight from Germany back to Ft. Campbell.

I was stationed at Dover AFB, DE as a Security Policeman when this occurred. DAFB has the largest port mortuary on the East Coast. All the bodies came to Dover and the SP squadron was assigned the task of providing "close in" security around the Mortuary. It was a very large operation and very solemn when the hearses brought the remains to the mortuary. It was very hard to have a "Merry Christmas" that year. I remember this unfortunate accident every year at this time.
