Like others have said, if you are exclusively targeting bobcat, don’t worry about bedding the trap. Set that sucker right on top of the ground and block it in heavy. Every bobcat I’ve ever caught was in an exposed set.
People either don't know or seem to forget, the trap does not have to be set below ground to work and actually better if it is not.
Now, how to conceal the trap above the ground, where it will not freeze and where it isn't detected and still function properly is what separates the 'wheat from the chaff' .
It's done.
Frozen (bare) ground and snow covered ground are two different styles for the most part.
Yea so I may have just been letting my preseason anxiety get to me. I ended up connecting on Thursday, only 3 days into my season. I was definitely over-thinking everything and wanting to make sure I was doing everything I could. Was a piece of cake lol will post pictures soon. Thanks for all the replies

Waxed dirt and Sand. Have tried um all. In mich we get crazy weather as i am sure others do. Make it in summer. Make twice what u think u will need. Lots of ways to do. Check u tube.
That's a neat idea, definitely something to look into. I wonder if a guy just used the bracket and put in on a bar only 6ish inches long and welded it flush with the top of the bar. That way the loose jaw won't be sitting on anything and it'll be easier to get a level trap. Drive it in the ground just enough to stabilize it, and anchor like you normally would elsewhere. If just using it to stabilize and not anchor the trap, I wouldn't think you would need too much ground penetration, especially in frozen ground. The bracket might not hold up to an animal, but shouldn't be too hard to find.

Go with it. A land trap that doesn't touch the ground. Todd is just experimenting with this concept.

I am on board. Love the idea. Build one for an mb550 and I will buy it! I would also prefer one shorter or maybe on more than one support as I use a lot of drags so don’t need that long of rebar.
Found leftover masonry sand from a pool install on Facebook. Went and shoveled about 2 truckloads. I had it laying on a tarp and sifted it all during summer as it dried down. Bigger stuff went into the chicken coop. I think I had a 55 gallon drum and 30-40 gallons in 5gallon buckets. I love it he stuff. I use peat moss between the jaws and wax sand over top to try to save a little bit, and make sure sand doesn’t get under the pan.
I tried setting in snow here, but never have made it work, but we don’t get the amount of snow that some do, so it’s gone within a week oftentimes
