1058 miles last job in West Texas Will do it again around 28 th of this month . I will go anywhere they will pay me to catch coyotes. I have excepted the fact that I will ware out a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 about every 5 years

Work a full time job, but like to trap too. Keep all my properties within 10 miles for not so early checks and time to reset after work. Don’t make a ton of money doing it, just enough for out of state turkey trips. Maybe if I retire one day I’ll take some properties farther away, right now I’m content with what I have and keep my landowners happy.

Most of my traps are never more than 20 miles from home but a 20 mile radius covers a lot of ground.

Nuisance trapping -put on a lot of miles. Fur trapping not so much.
One trpground its 30km by road then another 40 by snowmachine to the cabin.
The other trapground,the cabin is about 20 minutes by snowmachine from home.

About 45 miles to the ranch we work for. We go up and stay as much as possible while running a trapline. Weekdays are home for spouse to work with a check middle of the week on days he took off for Jan. trapping, he works 4 days so Fridays are also weekday check.

Since the market for southern fur bottomed to the point of no profitability I go where they pay me. Furthest is 4 hrs from my residence. I stay at the landowner's hunting lodge for a 14 day stint.

New property I’m trapping is about 75 miles away. I have three others that are only 15 miles away.

I travel 2 hours to crash at my sons place and we trap a long weekend a couple times a year. From his place is 1 1/2 hrs each day. Wouldn’t trade it for anything

Usually an hour to the first trap.
It's no different than when I go to work, usually I'll drive an hour one way to a jobsite in the morning.

Putting 240+ miles per day in this week. If everything goes well this week, next week, probably less than 150 miles per day. Every mile matters.


Like most people, I’d travel anywhere if someone makes it worth it.

Fur trapping about 200-250 miles a day in the truck and another 15 -20 miles in the boat. Most of the time closer than that but that is the farthest I usually go.

First trap about 100 feet from my front steps. Last trap about an hour away.

Tomorow I am setting the farm farthest from home, 19 miles, ditch trapping muskrats, just to help out the farmer, will not make money at it.

Locally my sets are less then 20 miles from home the last 4-5 years. A friend and I do take a fall trapping trip with 2 days of scouting and 3 days of trapping the base we use is 205 miles from my house.

I usually run a 60-80 mile line in the fall and a 100-125 mile line in the winter. This year is different. I'm covering about 4 miles on a quad. This weekend I'll run 50 mile to trap a couple colonies of beaver for 4-5 days, then follow up with another 50mile run for a couple other colonies for 3-4 days. Then back down to the 4-6 mile quad line till I call it quits in mid January.

This year my line is up a canyon starting about a mile from my house, I go 2 or three miles up the canyon checking sets along the way. Next season it will be more like 100 miles round trip, starting a mile from my house and ending a couple miles from the house the other direction. One big loop around the mountain range, likely by 4 wheeler most of the way.

20 miles is about the farthest I've run this season. Will run 30 or more this spring float trapping. Only reason being is because that's all I have scouted out and know where the rats are.

All of my farms are within 6-7 miles of my house.
