went out yesterday to check out one of my trapping areas - mostly nutes, muskrats, and beaver -- There are 3 different landowners on the same water district that I am on. !st place i didn't even go down to the water - pulled up behind the chicken barns that I had good luck at last year. I had to walk around the deer (it wasn't going to move) - then I spotted 4-5 nutes grazing next to the fence around the barn - 2 ran for the blackberries - the rest just kept grazing - I walked the blackberry line to find the trails and then had to check out the size of the remaining nutes. 1 I couldn't see very well as it was close to the fence in the tall dry grass so I decided to walk up on it and see what it was -- got about 2-3 ft away and it hadn't moved - but I saw a tail (actually 4) sticking out from the dry grass. I am developing some wisdom in my old age because I didn't grab all 4 tails to see what would happen. I only grabbed one--- and pulled it out of the litter (8-10 inch body) I considered what to do with it for a while and then decided that it would end up in a body grip in a few days anyway and let it go --- all the others just kept on doing what they do. The next stop didn't produce any excitment but did see another half dozen nutes swimming around -- the 3rd stop was ok -- walked the grass seed/hazlenut and blackberry line - then I saw another batch of nutes (walking the same path I was) -- they started running away from me - but couldn't find the paths in the blackberries that they wanted to escape so then they started running towards me -- most of them found a path before they reached me. One of them apparently wanted one that was about 15ft behind me (15-18 lb) - we stopped about 4 ft apart - it charged (bluff) and we stared at each other for a little bit - then I took a step back and let it pass. This made me remember why that I like dealing with animals so much more than people - not much deceit in them and their intentions are usually pretty clear. All in all a great day -- hope to put out some steel tues or weds next week.

Sounds like a fun day. I skinned a 19 lb nute yesterday.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

I think i am ok on traps -- but could use help skinning those high dollar nutes grin I usually get between 50 and 75 off these places every year - it appears that I may have to step up my game this year though.
