Apparently.

We had nutrias show up on the farm for the first time ever earlier this year. We're at least a half mile from nearest water that has a nutria population so it had never happened before. Over the late summer/fall I killed two adults one of whom I documented eating blueberries off my bushes. These four kits have showed up in the last couple of weeks. I suspect that they are about 8-9 weeks old meaning I would have killed mom when they were still nursing. At this point they're just keeping the grass mowed down in the blueberry patch so I'll let them stay the winter. Two of the little devils gnashed their teeth like nutria do to intimidate and charged at me a couple of times. LOL Hard to get too scared of something that weighs less than 3 lbs!

Just learn from my past experiences - they do not make good pets grin I always thought that the dryland nutes were much meaner than the waterway nutes - maybe that was just me though.

I actually once raised a foursome of nutrias that were so small when my dog dug out their den that I put all four in my motorcycle helmet. They would eat out of my hand and were not aggressive at all. Eventually I put them in a small pen outside and the dog finished them off one night.

You should not teach them how to ride a motorcycle until the helmet fits one nutria. Personally I think they should not ride motorcycles at all as that would expand their range pronto. But thats just me

Grown nutria on land will hold their ground against you. When they decide to come at you, be advised, they do not bluff. Retreat or get bit.

I would not give them a pass. You'll be covered in nutria soon enough. They are expanding there territory rapidly. I've been catching them near Tacoma, WA for the first time this year.

No fears. I know how to trap nutria having trapped many 1000's of them over the years. They won't make it thru next summer.

Seem to be expanding down here as well. Lack of trapping activity anymore alot of things are spreading out into place's they've never been before.
