That is around minus 25c so should be good,as long as the hide has been out in those temps all night and is frozen hard and you get at it early morning and keep the hide out of the sunlight.
And sharp scraper.

Thanks for the response. I’m gonna give it a shot. Their clean skint so just need some touching up. Not gonna wear a dress tho.

What’s the benefit of frost scraping versus just putting them on a beam and scraping? Just curious. I don’t trap many beaver, but the few that I have trapped I flesh on a beam, rotating them around the 4 leg holes. Seemed to work well, and we definitely don’t have the temps here to frost scrape.

So not being smart or sarcastic, I just want to know the benefit from those who use the technique.

John

For me its fast, can put outa bunch when the weather is right and no need to get at them right away-can do 2 or 3 at a time when you have 10 minutes to spare, here and there, while warming up the vehicle etc,the pelts dry overnight at room temp, freeing up your boards, and last but not least a superior finish and grease free fur.If you do a few and want to go trapping you just lay the others down in the snow and then do them when you have a few more minutes to spare whenever.
If you frost scrape you can really skin fast(rough clean the big ones) and leave more stuff on the hide than normal clean skinning would.Med and down you can frost scrape the rough skinned ones just as easy.
Same with wolf and otter-cleans the saddles right off in no time at all.
You need the proper climatic conditions to frost scrape.
Frost scraping is a different thing than frost drying.Frost drying takes a long time in very cold weather.
Frost scraping then drying normally is super fast and efficient.
