Had to drag clam youkon flip over shelter out yesterday on millacs. There is about 10" of snow and some slushy spots. I was traveling as light as possible and it was quite a chore to get it out there. I have some repurposed skis for skidders they were freezing up with slush.

I was wondering what people think of the new pop up ice houses available. Are they lighter than the flip over shelters? Maybe a little more portable? Most have much more room for fishing.

Help yourself.

You’re still going to need a sled for the hub fish house. I’ve had both set ups, I’m back using the flip fish house. The only advantage I see with a hub style fish house is you can fish more than 2 people in them.

I can get everything I need in the sled of the flip house, I was dragging 2 sleds inline when I was using the hub house. The hub was nice when 3 of us were fishing but other than that it was kind of a pia… and yes wind can be troublesome with a hub house, especially setting them up in the wind.

There isn’t as much room in a hud style house as one might think by the time you toss in 2 chairs, minnow bucket, and electronics….etc.

I run both, flip overs if I'm by myself, typically pull with ATV and if there's heavy snow or fishing with others- I throw the pop-up on my Smitty Sled

I keep going back and forth on limiting weight and making things easier to pull, also. By the time I get around to taking action, there is 18" of ice and I can drive my truck out there. I've decided to just tough out the first couple of weeks of ice season. smile

Millacs had about 8 or 9 inches of ice out of the casino access. When I drove by Isle bay there were trucks driving out of a resort there.

Fishing was ok not great several perch 5 walleyes between 4 guys 23 larges 17 smallest.

Help yourself.

They don't make a house big enough for two or more people.

I did do that, and it is a night and day difference for pulling.

I have 2 shacks, cycled through probably close to a dozen over the last 6 or 7 years trying to find what best fit my situation. I have a Clam Legend XL one man flip for solo trips when I'm going to be moving around. I have an Eskimo Outbreak 450xd for when I'm going to hunker down for a bit. There's room in that shack for me to jig and run 2 tipdowns and not get tangled up, or for 2 guys to run 2 poles each. Also big enough to camp overnight in on the ice. I'll also use it for sturgeon spearing in February.

You can cut weight by getting uninsulated, but you'll need to wear more clothes or carry more propane.

Not big enough lol.

I'd prefer it if there isn't anyone within 50 to 100 yards of me lol.
