Large blocks of grass can make a lot of difference in the nesting success. The smaller the grass the easier nests are to find. Large blocks, a mile or more square have a much better chance of success than the road ditch.

For Delta we trapped 15 Mar-15 Jul. When I started, we were trapping a 6 x 6 mile block and had to have permission on at least 80% of the block. There is a lot of difference in fur trapping and trapping to protect ground nesting birds. Have you ever fur trapped the same ground four months, no matter how little you are catching? I saw all the numbers for the control blocks and trapped blocks while I work for Delta, both the US and Canada. I would also bet Delta has never had a hatch rate success in the 90% rate, much less 99%.
You may suggest that he contact Delta Waterfowl and ask if they have seen a difference in fur prices and nesting success.

Get out of here with empirical data like that Mark. MattLA already told us reducing the population of nest predators does nothing to increase the hatch rate of those ground nesting birds.

Proudly banned from the NTA.

Bother me tomorrow. Today I'll buy no sorrows.

Here’s a screen shot of where I’m at- I took a break for the Packer Game last night.
I created a spreadsheet that I will review for data accuracy today, I utilized the following sources (good recommendations by the team). Please provide feedback and color on years that appear to be outliers or an anomality. After it’s scrubbed, I need to hand it off or add nesting success data that I built-in as a % but can easily change the qualifier, if it’s a different format. All Harvest totals are a snap shot of Wisconsin, all pelt values are MN/WI and/or pure WI, I used the average. In the years where FHA went unsold or withdrew raccoons for sale, I populated those cells with Wisconsin Fur buyer Report averages.

Pelt Value:

Nesting Success Data:
Need data or forward for someone to populate
