None other than whether you want the foot to slide or not. Both will slide if side swiveled, square more than round.

I like square side swiveled for a reason.

No pan bolt to loosen or tighten. It has two legs that crimp onto the spring pin. Pan tension is a factor of the geometry of where the held down jaw meets the dog. Minor adjustments in tension can be made by bending the dog tip up or down. A pit dog also has the bump that serves as a night latch.

They are superior as there is nothing to go out of adjustment unless damaged. Same for the Montgomery pattern dogless.

Sorry. It wasn't. I was just asking another question because I was looking at traps online and it didn't give ID. So looked at the pan and it say #2 CS. So I asked.
