I throw chicken feed under the truck for the chicken scratch, and this squirrel lives in the chicken coop and brings the feed back into the coop, and stores it back in the bucket for me.

When a rabbit shows up, he aint sharing.

Watch out, the squirrel may decide to hide the chicken feed in your truck, after chewing up the wires that are in its way. I have some friends who had squirrels do a total of $8000.00 plus in damage to wires in 3 vehicles.

That's cool.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

He has been living in the chicken coop going on his second winter now. I watch him closely and any bad behavior like drilling into the house or truck and he will be gone.

But I always like the opportunity to get close with nature when its in my yard and usually end up learning something as I did with him. When I check his feed cache, I notice he mixes dry shredded cardboard to aerate the pile so it dont mold, he also gathers alder cones and mixes those in, I believe he thinks they are miniature pinecones, but we dont have any spruce or pine here.

Whenever he came too close to one hen with chicks the hen would charge and run him off. One day he had enough and when the hen charged he attacked back and jumped up on the hen and actually rode her around the yard hanging off her side while she was squawking and running. I couldn't believe my eyes. lol

I almost killed him for that but they now respect each other for now anyway.

Once tha damage is done taking him out is a little late. Watching them is neat but I also buy insurance to limit risk so am not one for taking unnecessary risk.

They can provide good entertainment. The squirrel/chicken incident would have been something to see.

Just about.. I thought of putting a belt buckle up in his cache.

I should note that squirrel's are very rare around here, we dont have trees nearby just bushes. Most of the kids that come by to see my chickens also want to see the squirrel. They never saw either before.

This past summer another squirrel showed up, I figured it would mate and have babies. I watched the little devil run the intruder off all day and it never came back and the squirrel is still single no babies.

Sure love the rabbits ! Here are mine. Diva, the dun, had the two blackies this past summer, I call them my slippers smile

She came here from somewhere in early spring, and stayed. I feed them pellets and bread treats . They are pretty wild but tame as can be with me. I pet them every time I feed them. It's good for the blood pressure grin

I have snowshoes like you do too . Neat shots you got of them.

I would think those black coats would be easy for predators to spot in the snow.

I have alot of Fox visit the yard and had a lynx stalking my chickens so the are eating the bunnies too I am sure.

The slippers do stand out in the snow. But they stay tight to the cabin and I have my choice of firearms at any time needed to convince a predator. They stay in my woodshed at night, so fa, so good.

Of course they are domesticated rabbits gone wild , from someplace down the road. I don't mind them here. I use the excuse, if I need food sometime, I'll have it handy smile
