A lot of the trappers back in the day in the north would remove one spring from their bear traps and use them to catch beaver.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I have an old #3 Newhouse that has a spring saftey, hand forged that I have asked some collectors about and they say it is "trapper" made, it also has only one spring. I think the trap dates to the 19th century!? I also have some mink size traps that are put together from different traps, back in the day you made things work!
