Bobcat trapping is fun because we can try all sorts of tactics and most will work at times. The key is what are your goals (need to catch one, need to catch most, just want to try new stuff)?
My goal is to never miss a cat and that mindset tosses 99% of most tactics. Bobcats are apex killers and so we harvest them routinely. A 50% catch ratio doesn't cut it. 70% is still too low. I'm always after a 90% catch ratio and I'm still chasing that but to all who say cats are easy to catch.... I'll ask, what's your catch ratio. As in, how may come up, and then walk away without being caught.

I rarely use rub sets as they don't approach a 90% catch ratio. I do use them. I do use snares and Mr. Krause is the mentor in that area. I find snares, where needed, are a great tool on my tool belt for catching certain cats in certain spots.

Rub sets are the wonder of the trappers who love to make a cat dance to the trapper's fiddling. It's fun for sure. But again, the question is, what are your goals?
If you have a 15# female wiping out mature whitetail does one after another in a predation scenario.... they'll be no rub sets on my trap line for that bobbie.

Good trapping!
Mark

Thanks Mark.
My goal is to catch 1, as that's all I am allowed under this tag that I have applied for a few years to receive.
I have new bottles of Windwalker & Silent Stalker in my arsenal to use this week smile
