Are they working the pipe or is the trick for bocat to put out a blocker & catch 'em passing thru?

Well done.

I've had such good luck cat-man-do that I haven't felt the need to try anything else.

They will do that though - investigate without committing (part of the joys of cat trapping). I'd leave it and build another set close by with different lure/bait, or fence them in and make a blind set or two near the original sets.

Lots of good info in the archives from guys with gobs of experience.

Definitely check out the thread mentioned, Exposed Cat Sets

You can really fence/block a cat in. Make it to where the only place to step is on the pan. Check out some of the YouTube videos of house cats and dominos.

Indeed that link to the exposed trap sets is great. Thanks. I think I'll try exposed sets. It's interesting that cats don't step on sticks, but a shiny metal pan attracts them.
Nice to know a cat can be heavily fenced.

What about if I put pine needles on the trap, except for the pan--Good idea to help guide the cats foot while not impeding the trap function?

Heres a couple pics of a cat set I made this weekend. Look closely and you’ll see little sharp sticks poking up everywhere except on the pan

This is on a trail with a natural pinch point leading down into a creek bed

That's a lot of sticks Bob. It must be a trick to keep them from getting in the way of the trap firing

It’s not hard at all. You just position em so that they’re just out of the way of the jaws or the jaws will throw them out when it fires. I’ve never had one get fouled up by the sticks

And sets just like that one are deadly on red and grey fox, too. I’ve caught tons of em that way.
