Hey everyone. I bought stuff to make cable restraints and noticed I must of help off on support collars being indecisive. Does anyone know good local "big name" stores that would be good to get poly tubing from for 3/32" cables?

Side note: Those who build their own, can you put the support collar on before the largest stop button (38") to be able to have the support collar closer to your loop when running smaller loops on restraints?

In your situation, I would just use Electrictal tape. It works very well. Holds a snare tight.

Lowe’s carries different types and sizes of tubing if you’re still looking. One of the problems with tubing is that when you use different cable and wire sizes, you get different levels of snugness and when it’s really cold, some of the plastic tubing can get stiff.

If you’re ordering building supplies, my favorite support collars are the universal support collars that look like small springs. They fit all cable and wire sizes that I use, temperature doesn’t matter, they hold very tight, they’re super fast, and I can reuse them over and over and over. I’ve used every type of collar/whammy that I’ve ever seen, including the size-specific metal ones, tape, and just bending the wire into a W. The universal collars are still my favorite.

Just use a 3/32 double ferrule:

I strictly use SCOTCH 33 or 35 electrical tape.

If it makes a track on this earth , I can catch it.

Never thought of electrical tape, that's an interesting one! Thanks for the suggestions on the tubing so far. I may just run the tape now being the season starts in 3 days.

I’ll also say something for now and forever:

The universal support collars (the small spring looking ones).... I do like them more than all other types, BUT....BUT..... I’ve seen them advertised as “add them before or after...”—-that’s garbage. There’s no “after”.

Buy them before, add them before completion, and you have my favorite support collar. Build your snares and try to add the universal support collars because you read that you could add them after construction, and you’re going to hate those things.

As much as I love them, I do have to wonder why they acted like adding them after construction wasn’t a big deal.

Well you can add them afterwards, just not the way its advertised.

I see a lot of love for electrical tape. Unless you're fence snaring, to me its ine more thing to carry/remember to carry. As long as you have wire you can support your snare with a collar or not.

Rubber gas line. It"s flexible and won't freeze.

I use hose, but I actually like this. #9 wire is too big though, right?

YES, I use #11 wire for my coyote and wolf snare supports with no problems. [Linked Image]

Not knowing what size of wire your using to support the snare loop why not just make a small U bend and drop the snare cable into it then litely close it down with your pliers so when you make a catch it drags a bit so to speak closing the loop a bit faster

Then the next time your building snare you can add the tubing if you want to . Remember Keep It Simple Stupid ha ha

No need to tighten the wire if you make the bends right. With 5/64th 1x19 cable, you can hang a snare at any angle, even at the 5:30 position if the loop isnt overly large

My wires thicker though so it might be 11 or so. I have to use 3/32 cable here in PA as a minimum. Using 7x7.

The tape is a good idea IMO. I used it very successfully for years before I started using real metal wammies. Buy the good tape like was mentioned above and you'll be golden.

Use the spring twist on snare supports. Can add after u make snare if forgotten. Fuel hose works too. Use #9 wire for suppot. Many ways to support cables. A good snare book will help ya.
