oss til gagn sa fa vi mat

My grand mother had a stroke and it was very difficult for her to speak, however, she recited that prayer flawlessly at every meal.

I don't give thanks at every meal (most) but nearly every night as I'm crawling in bed I thank God for a roof over my head and a warm bed to crawl into (perhaps because I have had too many experiences crawling into a cold and clammy sleeping bag).

Life has its rituals and in this case, prayer before meals, my wife Donna is much quicker to the draw on, "let's say grace" than me. I hardly ever get the chance to say it, even if I wanted to because she has already said it.

Saying grace, which is an OLD English heritage from the earlier Latin (Roman language) Gratiarum Actio "saying grace".... "act of thanks."

Theologically, the age old act of saying grace comes from the Bible where Jesus and Paul pray before meals Luke 24:30, Acts 27:35.

We had fun with saying grace yesterday as we celebrated Christ's birthday with the Polish side of the family and Donna's older sister rounded up 15 youngins and more than that adults.... and told us to "be quiet" "bow your heads" and let's "thank God for this family and His Son Jesus!" Amazingly, it was the only one minute of silence in a very "busy" house yesterday, and I didn't miss that splendor amidst the family gathering. My brother in law nudged me afterwards and whispered..... "Wish you coulda made that prayer last about an hour..."

Blessings,
Mark

62 years ago I went to the Philmont Scout Ranch and learned the Philmont Boy Scout Grace. when I am asked to say grace before a meal this is what I say.

For food, for raiment, for life, for opportunity, for friendship and fellowship, we thank thee O Lord. Amen.

In Jesus’ name

God bless the food we receive.

Yes, we say grace on holidays.

I'm impressed! My Grandfather use to say grace before the Christmas meal in Swedish.

Saying grace is a form of the sacraments. Christ prayed before meals.

Yes! Every meal! It’s not a tradition. It’s my life. I’m thankful for everything. Even this forum.

Sure do. Been doing that since as young as I can remember. Mom and Dad taught us all the importance of being thankful.

Yes sir, every meal.

It's awesome when our oldest grandkids (13 & 15) eat with us because I always include the food in our prayer and one them always adds "and bless the hands who made it".

Before all meals. Everywhere. Every time.

It's not always about catching fish. That's what people who don't catch fish usually say.
