When you could mail a sealed letter for 4 cents and if you did not seal it but tucked in the flap it was 3 cents to mail. Where would that get you now?

Yep and post cards were 2 cents to mail as well.

How about red white and blue stripes on the edge of an airmail envelope? Or you could just buy an airmail stamp, ten cents if I remember right, and write airmail on the envelope.

All I remember is "allow 6-8 weeks for delivery" LOL. Probably waited for the truck to be fully loaded before they sent it off. It usually took longer, and I generally forgot what I ordered and it was a surprise.

A half ounce letter was $5 by Pony Express. Google said later reduced to $1. What a deal forever stamps are today, lol.

Postage was 4 cents back in 1958. I wasn't born until 1970.

I never heard of cheaper postage for leaving a letter open before.

I think with Eagle stamps I could get cash by taking a small deduction.

Belair(?) Cigarette coupons. Had 3 or 4 trash bags of them and traded them in for a Mitchell 302 Salt Walter fishing reel! grin

I was like Keith, I never knew it was less expensive to mail a letter unsealed.

Postcards were a penny, an unsealed letter was 2nd class mail for such things as Christmas/birthday cards, and my favorite was called franking. You write FREE where the stamp goes, for members of congress and soldiers in a combat zone!

I remember those days. The four cent stamp was purple with Abe Lincoln pictured. The thee cent stamp was red with George Washington, I think.

Most of my early life they were 3 cents for a letter, and they were called penny post cards, because that what they cost. Most of the high-priced stamps today are printed for the stamp collectors. The only stamps I ever see anyone are the bulk mailing stamps and get 1 or 2 commemorative stamps at Christmas time.
