I took the boys out to rabbit hunt yesterday before the snow melted. It started off slow we don't have a lot of rabbit on the farm. I was the dog and got shredded infact my shirt got several holes in it. I will be popping out thorns for the next several days.

We finally got into a spot with rabbit tracks and scat. I jumped one I didn't see. My 12 year old did but didn't shoot said it was to close.(I think he just was not fast enough or hesitation got him) the rabbit turned and went past my 10 year old and bang. One shot and the celebration was on. He rolled his first rabbit on the run with a shotgun that was all his. He had shot others last year but his brother and I had also shot at them at the same time so he didn't have 100% claim to them. He did shoot one I saw sitting last year with my glock in the head but it turnd out to have been we had allready shot and it just keep going. Had holes in its ears and a few pellets in it.

I walked a few more piles with the boys waiting on the edges and bang my 12 year old rolled one. Though he has shot rabbits with a pellet gun and one last year that managed to crawl into a hole this was the first one he has got on the run with a shot gun. He was stoked also.

I didn't see a single rabbit I jumped just heard the boys call out and the shots. I did manage to shot myself a trophy male opossum I saw in the head with my glock at only about 15 yards.

It was a wonderful day topped of with good Wensday night church service.

Now to see if I got this picture from phone thing figured out. They show up on the down lode so I will see if they pist.

Fun family times.
Frame it and hang in the Man Cave .
Someday after you are gone they will fight over it.
Great way to finish the year.

Thx for sharing.

You 10 Year old and his single shot brings back memories of some of my first rabbit hunts. I was about his age with my single shot 410.

It's been months since I bought the book, "How To Scam People On Line". It still hasn't arrived yet.

Way to go Dad! Looks like a lot of fun. I spent many hours as a kid chasing rabbits and grouse, great memories. I've never seen a Possum, but I hear they've got a mouth full of fangs. Like a Wolverine or a bear. You musta shot that one in self defense!

Now the possibilities are endless. You can boil, roast, smoke, and grind it. Make it into jerky and sausage. Put in a crock pot with garlic salt on low for 6 hrs and you can have some fine eating.

Most people over look coon, coyote, bobcat, fox and opossum and only if I'm starving to death food. But it's best to know how to fix it before you're in that bad situation. Plus it's grear for when You put your woman on a budget. wink
