My first and I'm not sure I'll ever top it. 14.9 lb male. I had two sets specifically targeting fisher. They weren't terribly far inside the woods from a pipeline where i had a few fox sets. Got him in one of the fox sets. Heading to the taxi tomorrow. Sticker shock for me. Was prepared for a hefty quote, but dang.[Linked Image]

Nice big applehead.
Make sure you keep the skull,it will have a large saggital crest.

That's a beauty, congrats. They are really cool critters. I get a tag every year but never make it up to camp (3A) to trap them. One of these years...

I agree with Boco, save the skull and lower jaw. I had my taxi clean and return the skulls on my mink, muskrat and beaver.

Eh...wot?

I do plan to save skull and bacculum. I only dabble in fisher trapping. Just have my Christmas week vacation so if weather challenging that really reduces my chances. The property i bought last year, primarily for deer hunting, has really opened up the fishers options. Bit of a drive for daily check but lots of their tracks. Seem more or at least as common as fox in my neck of the woods.

What mount are you considering?

Because besides a full body mount like others havesaid
A skull mount and Hide tanned for your wall would be cheaper

If you do go for a full body mount make sure the Taxidermist you choose does fishers Nice...the way you'd like them to turn out.

Not all Taxidermist can do Bobcats well and same with the Fisher.

Congratulations! Beautiful Catch

That is a good fisher there. They grow big in our state due to a good food prey base. My first was a big one also.

That’s terrific. Your going to display and admire it the rest of your life. You only pay the taxidermist once in your life.
Get the very best, check his work on fishers to see that he is the best. Otherwise ship it to who is.

I think he's in good hands. Got a referral from a buddy to a slightly high end taxidermist who specializes in fur bearers. He only had one fisher on display at the gallery but many other nice mounts. After a long consultation we narrowed in on a good way to display him. I will say from this experience that you cant be too choosey on forms with a big male. There just isnt much variety like there is for smaller males and especially females.

Nose to tail was 43 inches. The form length measurement from nose to rear end i think was 25 inches.

Not sure if this is any indication of age but he does have a few white hairs on his back. Almost like a beard as it starts to turn gray. Like those random long white hairs.

Fisher must be rare in PA seeing how excited you guys are ? I use to get excited too 40 years ago when I first started trapping them. But at least back then the pelts were worth something. Here in northern NY way too many, could not care less if I ever caught another. Nothing but vermin here and the NYSDEC has the season set so the pelts are poor when caught.

But congrats anyway.

Not that I know of definitively other than the older bigger males have a fairly large crest.
The definitive way is tooth sectioning and counting the cementum rings under a microscope.
