I have been trying to figure out what to do for a trap basket. I just can't bring myself to spend $90 for a fiberbasket pack and then another $30-40 to ship at this point. I think I am going to make my own from a 6 gallon bucket and build it up how I want for now until I see if I need something better.

It got me to thinking, what are some home made items you have made that fill your needs , be it simple or elaborate.

I am not trying to start a thread to cut corners or do something that would lead to anything unethical or ineffective, rather just see what people have come up with to make life easier for you.

I made my pack basket from an old kitchen garbage can. Added straps, a couple hoops and it works great.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Hadn't even thought about that but I like that idea even better! Thanks for posting!

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

I make all my rebar stakes and drags. Well that’s not entirely true, the good lord made some of my drags, sometimes I use rocks and tree limbs lol. I’ll be making myself a pack basket this spring as I done wore out my old wooden one, busted a hole right through the bottom of it. I’ve made a lot of pan covers, but anymore I find that I’d rather spend $30 a year on store bought ones than spend all that time cutting them out. I build my skinning gambrel out of scrap iron I had laying around. I plan on building a bunch of expanded pans this summer for cat traps next year, I’ll build em out of aluminum sheeting and rivet them on, it’ll only cost me my time, I can get as much aluminum sheeting as I want out of the scrap bin at work. Built colony traps and cage traps. Stretchers out of scrap lumper. Probably build a new catch pole this year. Also would like to get my winch set up for skinning. Possibly build a skinning rack that plugs in to the receiver hitch on my pickup.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to building trapping gear lol.
