Anyone on here a Immigrant to the USA that has gone through the whole process of getting citizenship. Looks like it's quite the battle. I guess they have multiple ways of getting it. Anyone done it that knows exactly how it works ?

Oh sorry , I didn't realize you were asking for yourself and you are from Canada .

There is someone here on T - man that I believe has been here for awhile and still may be working on that . I won't mention any names but maybe he will chime in .

I'm not even sure what citizenship grants you here in the US now days . Non-citizens aren't deprived of anything anymore that I'm aware of

I heard that trapper les has a underground railroad at his place to free oppressed Canucks. He can get ya across the border and you have to work in his greenhouse and garden for 1 year, then your free. grin grin

We applied for my Colombian wife's son (previous marriage) to get an immigrant visa. Applied 10 years ago. Everything has been approved but he's still not here. There is a quota for every country on how many folks can come in.

Hey beaver so was he able to just apply for a visa having a family member that's a US citizen? Dad's American but I was born in Canada. They don't seem to really care about that much though.
Wet dog thanks for that link.

Hey Rusty, my wife applied for him to come. We paid around $700 for the application fee and had an attorney do all the paperwork (another $2000). I think your dad would need to apply for you to come and be your sponsor.

If your father is a US citizen then you should be too as birthright citizenship is a thing. If I understand it right the process is to apply at a consulate with proof of birth and parent's US documents.

I have a friend who has been working on it since 1978, it's an unbelievable nightmare.

If you want to see how dysfunctional our Government is check out the recent story about a woman who was adopted by US parents as an infant and was nearly deported as an adult.

There are multiple ways depending on the circumstances

Tell me about it, my kids were born overseas (China) and apparently you are supposed to register the birth of such children at the nearest embassy, which I didn’t, so when we decided to move back to the states I called the help line and asked what I should do, I was told to list them on my wife’s visa request which I did, I later got conformation that both him and my daughter had been approved and were now considered natural born citizens that their birth overseas had been noted and corrected

A few years later We got a letter from immigration telling my son he had to report for deportation because he had not filed the proper paperwork so his visa status was being revoked and he was being deported, we of course protested it and had to hire a lawyer, luckily I had legal insurance through work and except for a 500 dollar co pay it was all covered, took 3 years and about a dozen court appearances for everything to get ironed out, and it was lucky I am a pack rat and saved everything we got from them including the letter informing us of his and my daughters change in status from alien status to citizens

3 years of legal fees would have likly bankrupted us if not for the legal insurance we had, at the end the lawyer told me he had over 200 billable hours into our case
