Alright new guy trying again. Set my first traps ever this time last year... caught 2 red foxes and half a dozen coons, but no coyotes.
Day one this year raccoon.

I have trail cam photos with as many as 5 coyotes in the screen, but what I don't have is dirt and sand.
they routinely parade down tall grass, heavy leave covered trail. Stuff like this

Do I have any chance of catching in an "unburied" trap... meaning set and stable buried/ bedded up to the jaws but then covered with a vertical 6 inches of the grass and fluff as I have done here? The trail is muddy and wet under the mess and didn't lend to a nice brushed over covered trap

Found this guy in a different set this am...

Those are the type spots I look for. Snares or blind sets all day, stack them like cord wood. Lol

Try a big flashy dirt hole off to the side somewhere (not very far off the trail). Something that looks like a badger or groundhog dug there.

I don’t know what you laws are but I would say snares.

May God bless you and yours

That looks like a snare to me and I can't do that here.

Yes I would be using snares, see your state regs for all the construction specs when using land snares. Pick narrow locations along the trail to set.

A little gland lure or urine on either of the small trees in the photos looks promising. Remember yotes can't resist peeing on something.
