Red Yeast Rice has reduced my cholesterol by 21 points in the last 3 months. I’m going to continue to take it and recheck levels in 6 months. What age did you guys start taking statins?

Been fighting with the cardiologist for years over this, He finally won... Pravastatin every other day, otherwise get cramps in my legs, read somewhere statins stay in your system over 70 hours.
My cholesterol was never real high, just borderline, doctor never mentioned COq10 but I take some anyway.....Frankly, not a real believer in statins in most cases but am trying it again to see what the results are.

Yes, had to start low dose statins after I started chemo a couple years ago. Fun little side effect. Take one med to kill something and end up taking ten more meds to combat side effects like higher cholesterol, blood sugar, can’t store iron well, etc. etc. etc. I’ve ran 26 half marathons and two full marathons also, and training for more this year. I rarely eat red meats and I really watch my sugar and high cholesterol foods. The statins are just a necessity to fight the side effect of the chemo. I am at 1.5 years at undetectable now for p190 and p210 leukemia markers. Doc says if I can get to three years undetectable there are studies to support I can go off chemo and see if I can hold remission on my own. I take chemo every 12 hours, 5:00AM and 5:00PM. Can’t eat two hours before or one hour after each dose. Can NEVER miss a dose. It’s working well so far and I am hoping and praying to beat this. Leukemia is not curable but hoping it doesn’t come back if I can get to that three year mark and wean off of it. Maybe I can quit statins and metformin for blood sugar issues then too. Will see. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I started taking statins in my 20’s. My dad died at age 47 from heart attack. I’m also on genetic form of Zedia. I had 3 stents put in at age 46 in 2011. I have to have a stress test done every 2 years because I have stents and a CDL license.
It is more blessed to give than to receive

I have a question for those of you who blindly take drugs because a drug pusher with a license points at a number and tells you its bad even though you dont have any symptoms.
Do any of you know anyone that died from high cholesterol ?
Always trying to hijack any cholesterol thread Jeff, like you're some sort of surgeon general. The rest of us are not experts. I'll take my chances with the general consensus from the cardio medical community though. The best sources you can seem to come up with are some sort of off the cuff YouTube video(s). Actually yes, high cholesterol has killed a lot of people. I can't speak for the people that blindly take drugs though as I try to do my research first, and weigh the risks versus reward. Also I try to steer clear of people that come across as drug pushers, and I seek second opinions. I would question how you know if someone has symptoms or not. You are right though that a person should be cautious taking medicine.

Not Trying to hijack any thread, and just pointing out what the actual doctor in the video said about the cholesterol scam the medical industry has duped the public into taking for life.
Its right up there with "salt is bad for you" even though its a critical electrolyte our body needs. Total scam.
Remember its the same drug companies that got our government to mandate their product or be fired from your job.
I will believe the good doctor(Family Phisician) in the video that's whistleblowing on the corrupt drug companies.
Here is this same doctor, he can straighten you out on that myth too. High blood pressure is not from salt. Its from a high carb diet. Stop eating carbs and your blood pressure will normalize. Stop eating salt and it wont.
Reading this and past threads about medication makes me wonder how many people have to take some type of medication every day?
I'm 52 years old and am RARELY sick. I am not on any medication, just take a multivitamin and turmeric every morning. I'm very active, do CrossFit, run and spend a lot of time outside. My wife is an Assistant Superintendent and is 46. She is not on any medication either. In our circle of friends and family members, it AMAZES me the number of people, of various ages, that have to take, or think they have to take daily medication.
I totally understand that some medication is necessary, but it just astounds me of how many people I know are on some type of prescribed medication.

Jeff, I know a trapper who had just retired and was looking forward to trapping full time in the winters. His wife who did not believe in taking the "Doctors pills" suffered a major stroke and now this guy spends his days 24-7 taking care of his chair bound wife and spoon feeding her.
So to answer your open ended question I offer up this: Stokes are caused mainly by blockages of blood flow. Cholesterol (the bad kind) helps to build up plaque. If she would have been taking statins she likely would not have had the stroke.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Thats total nonsense. Watch the video of the doctor and his chart PROVING that the increase of statin use DID NOT lower the death rate from cardio vesicular disease.
Now show me a chart that shows statins use lowered the death rate. You cant because it dont.
No your friends wife most likely had a high carb diet and calcified her arteries and a piece broke off and caused a stroke.
I hear alot of people saying My father had a stroke so Its hereditary in the family. No that's not right either. Most learned their bad eating habits from their parents.
Your body produces 75% of the cholesterol in your body. You get the other 25% from your diet. It is stored in fat, so if your worried about cholesterol and want to get it down. Lose weight and it will come down. But I would not worry about a substance your own body needs and produces, and no where is there evidence that it causes stroke or heart attack.
I think alot of people are looking for a magic pill so they can continue their bad eating habits and think they are safe, but it dont work that way and as the graph shows. No lives were saved by statins.

I had the same positive results with red yeast rice. My former doctor told me about it. However, it does contains statins but the doc said they are natural statins whatever that means.
