I heard on a podcast that Mark Zagger puts up coyotes without flipping them. Does anyone know how this is possible or where I could learn this technique? I’m never going to have the chance to attend his Coyote U school. I would gladly pay for a video if he makes one.

Make sure your fleshing job is complete.

Pull the cartilage out of the ears.

Flesh the head area.

Use a dusting of borax on flesh side of pelt.

Use a wedge on belly and back sides amd run them all the way up to chin and between eyes.

Use a dehumidifier and fans in the drying room.

I'm in the Southeastern US with very high humidity. In NM, you may be able to skip the borax and dehumidifier.

You can skip the flip by applying some borax to the skin side. I’ve even used sawdust and it works as well. Only do this if your relative humidity is low. I get away with it here because I have super low humidity. The borax/sawdust just keeps the hide from sticking to the board.

I have tried it many ways. Best just to hang fur side in for couple of hours, then dust with borax when you flip. I have seen 1 setup that skips the flip that works. It was made garden hose with holes in them that where attached to wedges. This was plumed into a squirrel cage fan which made it force air into pelt. Not very useful unless hanging dozens of coyotes at a time.

I've seen a setup that pumped air inside the pelt to skip the flip

I run everything in an air wall. Fur out from the get go, channeled boards wrapped in paper.

No fighting with the flip, no touching of fur to greasy boards, no special considerations (borax etc) to combat slippage, and my coyotes only spend 24 hours on the boards so no bottleneck at the boarding stage.

For volume processing it’s the only way to go.

This is interesting. I might try that.
