I have a lot of inside fat from the last deer I harvested. Some one had been feeding her corn and looked like a fatted beef.

Rendered some of the fat and the cracklings, I believe, will be great fox bait. Can the tallow be used for anything?

I've found it to be very strong flavored, and not in a good way! Probably from red oak acorns and leaves.

I use it for bird suet. The woodpeckers prefer over the store bought stuff. I hang it in an old onion bag.
Last year I hung one a little to far from the back of the house and the coyotes kept jumping till they ripped it down.
Hundreds of tracks in the back yard told the story. Looks like they went at it for a long time till one finally jumped high enough. Then to add insult to injury one took a leak on the side of my house. Needless to say the next day I put out two sets with suet. Never did catch a yote though

I use it for bird suet also.

Hardly a minute goes by when the chickadees aren't working on it.

Deer fat is pretty nasty to eat, but the birds love it, doesn't even need to be rendered, hang up a hide or rib cage and the birds will clean it off for you...

I always hang the gut fat in a bush by my stands just to watch the birds. Rendered or not they don't care but the bigger woodpeckers seem to like it better not rendered. I used to put chunky peanut butter, steel cut oats and raisins or craisins in it but too much work and they could care less. Mike

If I am not using it for bait it works well for suet.
