The twist on part of the name really is for twisting it onto your support wire.

I like the tape idea, never thought of that. Here's what I do, and I learned this from a local gov trapper. Take an old set of jumper cables and cut them to desired lengths with a cable cutter, I've found that 1.5 to 2 inches works well, strip the coating off of the wire and each individual wire could be used as a support. I like to blacken them with my torch to cut down on the chances of the sun glare and store them in an old pill bottles. I do a lot of fence line snaring and this works well for me. I use a small U shaped piece of wire just behind the lock to hold the snare up to the bottom wire of the fence and one of the jumper cable wires on the loop of the snare and around the bottom wire of the fence. You can make the copper wire as tight or a loose as you want it. I do not see why this wouldn't work on snaring trail setups, etc. Just another tool to have in the bag of tricks.
