I have my 2003 Arctic Cat 440 snowmobile. I only use it for fishing. It has about 1400 miles on it. I bought it new and have never had a problem with it. When I had it in to the shop for a once over recently, they drained the tank of gas from the previous year even though I had run Sta-Bil through it from last winter. It was running great when I put it to bed in spring.
I filled it with gas, but it was backfiring and has poor power when I try to accelerate. I put SeaFoam in when I put 5 gallons of gas in. I'm going to try new plugs. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

I can't see the problem. I have never owned something for 20 years and never had problem with it. You my friend are truly blessed.

Over the 20 years I've replaced the battery several times. New plugs. Grease it every year. Store it inside. The belt still looks like new. I polish it every summer. It looks like a new machine. This is the first time I've ever had a problem with it.

What color are the plugs? Could be fuel air mix issue Plugs don't look any different than they always have. One guy told me there is a fuel filter in the tank that could be dirty. I've never changed that. Another person said it sounded like a carb problem which seems odd since it ran so well this past spring.

Unscrew the bolt on the bottom of the carb's. You don't have to take it all the way out to empty the bowl. Drain it, tighten it back up, fire it up, use the primer if it has one first, to push the gas back down the line to the bowl you just emptied. It may take a bunch of pulling or starting if no primer. Might fix the problem.
If not, you can pull them off the rubber boots carefully, spray them out, take off the bowl, clean the bowl. Put it all back together, prime it again and start it up. Be nice to the rubber boots, you can add some oil to the edge of the boots to get them back on, don't tear them and check them for cracks for sure. Use a flashlight in the dark to check for cracks in the rubber boots.
Sea Foam does have some good things, but won't fix everything.
Use a flashlight to check the tank for water, it will be under the gasoline on the bottom of the tank, looks like water pearls or a small pond if really bad. You should be able to see the filer in the tank, see if it looks in one piece. Replacing the filter is my last choice. The almost always get fixed by cleaning the carbs out. Use a good carb cleaner.
Fill the tank in the spring, add some heet, removes water from gasoline, red bottle. Add some stabil as well, mix it good, run it for a few minutes to get the heet down into the carbs and system. Start it once or twice during the off season and you should be good to go. Holler if you have questions, it's easy to do.
My Super Wide will pull your broken down 4 stroke, up a hill backwards, with you on it!

I thought Sea Foam would take the water out of the gas. I used to use Heet years ago, but a friend told me Sea Foam would do the same thing and you didn't need Heet. I'll go back to using Heet. Thanks!

By draining most of the fuel, there is still some in the float bowls. It will evaporate and get gummy.
Tear the carbs down and clean them.

You took it to a shop it was running great. They gave it a once over, They drained all the gas so you didnt hear it run before you paid and left? Now its not running right? Do they sell new machines?

It's junk, I'll give you 250 dollars for it, I need the motor lol.
I would start with the carbs. Just because you put it away in good running order doesn't mean they didn't "gum" up. Have you ever had the carbs cleaned? Are you running ethanol or the non oxygenated?

Could have been an honest mistake like getting the plug wires switched or something. Or am I missing something?

Non-oxygenated always. When I picked it up it started and sounded great. I filled the tank with gas, poured in some Sea Foam and it still started fine and ran great until I went out onto the lake. I tried to open it up and it started backfiring and it had no power.

That was my 1st thought. You would want to give the the benefit of the doubt. They stopped selling Arctic Cats a couple years ago.
