My son in law is part of a Ski Doo snowmobile racing team that goes all over the country. I was trying to think of the model of the SkiDoo snowmobile that it seems so many Alaskans use on their traplines. I couldn't remember the model when he asked.
The first bottles of Coca Cola contained 3.5 grams of cocaine. That's how our grandparents were able to walk to school uphill both ways in the snow.

Tundra ll or Super Wide Track. Those are the most common Ski Doo machines used up here.
My Super Wide will pull your broken down 4 stroke, up a hill backwards, with you on it!

Dont know about Alaska, but in the northern bush here Skandic is by far the trappers choice. Back in the old days the Alpine was the trappers machine.

When the neighbor showed up he couldn't start his machine as the primer was screwed up. I gave him about 5 old dysfunctional primers and he brought one to life. Good manufacturers use Mikuni carbs that have an enricher ( kind of choke ) and a primer.
P.S. I'm not saying Ski Doo was cheap when they built these, but they only have one ring on the piston.

There have been a few different models of Skandic. Wide track or Super Wide track. A couple different engines, 380, 500, 550, all 2 strokes. They have a true gear box, with a shift lever, not the push button reverse. They have under seat storage, heated grips and thumb. You can ride 2 up if needed. Any model with a 550 fan engine is what I like. Lot's of power, easy to work on, easy to rebuild, good in deep snow, etc.

I add gas, check the oil and where the oil injection goes in (and rattles loose), prime it 3 times and it starts the second pull. It has been that way since new.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Gone thru a lot of primers on the tundra. Seems like sitting in the off season kills them. I agree and mine tend to "dry out' so I start them every couple of months all year long.

If you are in rough country with no trails and little snow, Expeditions are easier to ride than Skandics, not nearly as tippy. Tip over enough in a 730 pound machine on bare frozen ground, you'll change to an a arm suspension. I used to drive the newer Tundras around, but the pogo suspensions are too tippy in the hills, tundra, mountains, and ice for me.

When I got my 2012 Tundra, I was looking for a Skandic. Every add I hit the response was already sold. Tundras same thing. I like the narrow ski stance, 550f, long deep track but it does seem to guzzle. Although I’ve never just trail driven it, it’s either hauling or breaking trail. Once I figured out how to ride it in deep snow (just lean some weight in the direction you want to go) it’s crazy what it’ll putt through pulling a sleigh with gear and a 240 pound buddy on the skids.

I have won lots of money pulling fish houses that the guys with the hot rods couldn't. They are super tippy and when you get a load on them the skis never even touch the snow put they will pull their guts out. In slush they don't have the power to blow the slush out of the track though. Good sleds and some of the best money I ever spent. I will but a SWT one of these days and those 2 machines will last me until I no longer have use for a sled.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Dont know about Alaska, but in the northern bush here Skandic is by far the trappers choice. I've never heard of that one. Is it a wide track? Skandic is a line, they make them in wide track (20") super wide track (24") and depending on the year, the Tundra is sometimes classified as a Skandic model and sometimes is its own line. In the past they have also made Skandics that were not wide tracks but usually long tracks like the Tundra.
