Ely, Minnesota, coolest small ...
After seeing the thread on fleshing beams I realized that there are two main ways to flesh. Push or pull. I have seen a couple of very good scrapers on coon and beaver do an awful lot of animals. Both of them used the pulling method because it allowed them to keep everything at eye level where they could see the best. They would move the pelt from the nose to a front leg, then step up and down on a milk crate to keep at the right height. It worked for them. I was never able to master this technique or even come close to matching them. What do the experts on this forum think?

I would rather push.

I've done both, I much prefer to pull.

I have tried pushing, but pulling is much easier. I don't flesh beaver though, only cased animals.

You can't fix stupid, but you can vote!

I prefer to push. Just the way I have always done it.

Push because you can lean your weight into it.

I ain't no expert, but a fur buyer showed me his beam and how he fleshes. He's a pusher, I duplicated his set up and it works great. I'm a pusher now also!

I learned the 'pull' method first. Used it for several years. After I learned the 'push' method, I swore that I'd never go back to pulling.

Push, I get Carpell Tunnel in my left hand during the season and if I pull I would have to grip. Pushing I can do open palmed witht the left and gripping with the right. Tried pulling but never could get it right.
