Looking good our small flock of about 14 we hope will lamb in March or at the earliest late February. Later lambs may hurt us for some of the earlier celebrations but we are not setup well for winter lambing. We do have a good live market sales for our 60-70 lbs. Katahdin meat sheep. We make much more money with them then we did with my 4 cow beef herd so we sold them. Maybe I should say we don't LOSE as much money on the sheep flock?

NV Wrangler what kind of sheep does he raise? I have two different groups to lamb only because one of my rams ended up shooting blanks so I’ve got 25-30 ewes that won’t lamb til end of March thru April

My sheep are a combo of a bunch of different groups, the father of these is a st Croix, I think the mother of these 4 are both dorpers or dorper crosses. I’m working at getting to 100 percent katahdin.

bblwi I agree when I bought my grandparents farm I only had enough pasture for a few cows and new I would have better luck with sheep on the smaller acreage

My son had 5 ewes bred with the ram....pulled blood on them..only 2 got bred.

He's bumming....figured the ram went sterile during that wicked hot weather we had ,when the ram was with the ladies.

One ewe is due within the week..and the other ..in a couple weeks.

Nessie I had two pens of ewes and a ram in each and noticed my mature ram was always next to the fence sniffing on the ladies next door, I called the guy I bought the ram from and he told me to take it to the vet and have it tested and if it was no good he would replace it. Going to have me spreads out for a while but late lambs are better than no lambs!

NV sounds like your boy has his work cut out for him, I’m convinced any critter the good lord created that was dumber than a sheep must already be extinct!

Nessie no we don’t use seeders but would make things nicer having everyone on a closer lambing pattern

I used to work for a guy who raised white tails and we always did seeders and ai of all the sheep I’ve dealt with I like the katahdins the best

NV sounds like he must be pretty good at what he does

Nice! We had a surprise lamb last week. Guess the wife needs to be more careful in separating her sheep in August! Cute little girl, though.

I know almost NOTHING about farming and livestock. I always wondered why people had lambs in the middle of winter? Seems like you hear a lot about them freezing or having to take some dramatic steps to avoid it.

Looks good! My wife has horned Dorsetts . I had a huge Dorset ram at one point I bred to all her ewes- some of which were smaller breeds, and had to pull every single one- except the Dorsets. They rock and always throw twins sometimes triples, and Lamb easy
