According to an article I read many years ago, can't remember where, round wick lamps have a tendency to blow up and start fires! Have any of ya'll heard of this? Good person that I am. I am going to try and save Catch from a death in flames and am offering to take those two lamps of his hands so he will not have to worry and live a long and safe life. I know it s selfless of me, but thats just how I am. I have got a couple of fireproof metal boxes and can come and pick them up myself

Lol Scuba, selfless . The Aladdin lamps are cool and very bright but you have to deal with a mantle. They require a bit more care.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Nice looking lamps. Where do you find the wicks? I can get them for the Alladin lamps, but no idea for the others. Got a couple B&O lamps out in the shed. Online. Lehmans, Ebay, and other sources with a search. The majority of lamps and lanterns still have parts available.

Now as to whether or not the Aladdin shades fit... I do not know. Rayo lampsBut if I had to pick, give me an Aladdin any day!! Yes they have a mantle, but when the power goes out it's dang close to having a Coleman lantern in the house, without the fumes and hissing sound lol.

They don't sell Rayo's like I posted, been gone for maybe 70 years or so. There's a huge Aladdin following, I'm not one of them but they sure put out light. A lot of Amish around here love them.

I love the restoration you do on kerosene lanterns.
I own a couple.
But, as your buddy Marty knows, lol...
when the grid goes down for good.,...
give me my Aladdins please.
Once the mantles wear out I'll have to resort to kerosene and old fashioned oil lamps.
But the last mantle on my Aladdin lasted 10+ years. Just replaced it for the first time this year.

I have a small red lantern which I fill with citronella and use it on the deck to keep the mosquitoes at bay. It burns citronella just like what's supposed to go in it. Like Catch22,,I too have a collection of old Dietz lanterns and have lost track of how many oil lamps I have.I use one of the Dietz lanterns same as you.I put regular lamp oil in it,,but also add Citronella oil and Lemon Grass oil to it and it does a good job of keeping the Mosquitos away when we sit out on the deck.

I do the same for night fishing, also I bought a red globe for my Dietz to protect my night vision.

Here is me trying to save Catch 22's life and he just mocks me. I thought it was tough enough on him just being from Ohio ......ya just can't help some folks.
Thank you for the link on those Aladin lamps. I think I may have to get one of those as we have power outages on a regular basis and I have a twin mantle Coleman at the ready just for that reason. But it would be nice to have light without the noise the coleman makes and the Aladin lamps are more pleasing to the eye as well.

A lot of people love Aladdin's and your fortunate to have one. The cost of the mantles and the good chance I'd bump it or mess up the mantle is the only reason I don't have some.

That was the one I was looking at also. I would have to put it on a wall as I have 6 cats and 2 dogs running around our small place and anything left on a table will get knocked off. Which is incidentally how I know that the earth is not flat. If it was, cats would have knocked everything on it of the edge by now.

I have the green Genie model. It can be used as a table lamp, wall mounted, or hung. I have the hanger for it also.
I will say the mantles are NOT fragile like Coleman lantern models. You breathe on them wrong and they break. The Aladdin mantles can take quite a bit of knocking around without breaking. I've had one mantle on it for about 10 years. It finally wore out and I put on my second mantle this year. This is the one I'd get, I think they're beautiful. From the mid 30's. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/01/full-46733-164634-1935_36_aladdin_jadeite_jade_green_1_6293a566d4c04570a2ce4d3ba5eb69cf.jpg)

Hey Catch This is the Aladin lamp I have that Dad bought at auction. I have no idea how old it is never really research it. This one is the simple one that was my grandfather's. Again I have no idea how old it is. Just that it is older than my 66 year on planet. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/01/full-1002-164636-img_20230113_135859160.jpg) The top one uses the sock type Mattel bottom on just wick. I haven't used either in years although I ran my grandfather's pretty regularly for a while. Actually the reason I made my first batch skunk oil. I ran it in this lamp. The Aldin I only remember lighting one time just to try. Actually cracked the chimney glass when did. I haven't replaced that yet and really should. I have couple others around the house too but their nothing special to me. Mac
