At War with a Muskrat by Freddie McKnight.

Almost all of the articles in the Pennsylvania Game News magazine are hunting related. It was good to see a trapping story. It was entertaining reading too.

Eh...wot?

I enjoyed that article, a trap shy muskrat, lol. Actually I don't think he caught the trap shy rat, I think it was another muskrat that migrated into the area.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Everybody needs to send a letter to the editor about how much we enjoyed the trapping article. Here is my email I sent.

Dear PGC,

My name is Matthew Deinhardt, I am a sportsman from Louisiana. I enjoy reading a variety of state's Game Commission Magazine that gets published monthly, quarterly or annually. It helps provide a great perspective on the differences of how each state's sportsman tackle similar issues through awesome hunting, trapping or fishing stories. I also enjoy the official Game Commission info such as harvest rates, animals taken and arrests made for poachers.

I really wanted to tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed the At War with a Muskrat by Freddie McKnight. This was such a great article and story about an animal that Im sure all of us can relate too. Also as a trapper primarily, it was really wonderful to read such a pleasant and thrilling piece about trapping! Keep up the great work and I look forward to reading more trapping stories in the future.

P.S. Maybe reach out to some old timers to get some really great stories that will become the basis for legends someday!

Very Respectfully,

Matthew Deinhardt

i really enjoy the Pennsylvania Game News. New York's "Conservationist" was a quality magazine years ago, but has deteriorated into junk these days.

Edit: As a bonus. The more people that send comments in from different states I will send their legislature and game commission a positive email about trapping. If you have a tag issue and science supports increase I will mention that too.

"Thank you for your kind words, which I have shared with the appropriate staff members." Bet we get two trapping articles next month, or atleast another trapping article.

PGC talks tough on feral swine impacting native species, BUT is woke on feral cat control. Feral cats harvesting should be encouraged on PA Gamelands, since they pose a huge threat to species diversity.
How about an article why PA STATE Law protects free roaming cats, EVEN on PA Gamelands. We all encounter these pests on our traplines....

Down here I think all of our "snapping turtles" eat the feral cats...thats atleast what I'm told.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

I sent them another email thanking them for the trapping article, I also really enjoyed the article by Matt Kramer titled "This Ain't a Roadkill". I wish they would run more articles about apprehending poachers and other game law violations like they did years ago.

Sounds like some good articles in the latest issue. I haven't cracked mine open yet, still working my way through the latest FFG.

My father was a subscriber to the Pennsylvania Game News till the day he died. I remember in the 50s-70s they had articles periodically on trapping techniques. I used to read/re-read these as I was growing up. There eventually was a book put together by the Game Commision of these trapping techniques.

I know some people that think that was the greatest trapping book ever. I never had it that high, lol. I will say, I had a first edition of Pennsylvania Trapping and Predator Control in my youth and it was perhaps the first method book I ever had and I did like it as I wore it out by handling it many times.
