Here's the latest wood shop project completed. This is for my mothers church. Seems that the reverend has an old cardboard box that he gives to a child during service. The child takes it home, puts something in it, and the reverend has to make a guess next service as to what is in the box. After opening it, he then preaches something about the contents. Kind of a way to have the children participate in the service I suppose. Anyway, my mother asked me if I could make a nice box that they could use for this purpose. About the size of a boot box or so. This is what I came up with.



I hand carved the Trinity symbol on the lid. It turned out pretty good. I'm no ace at carving. In fact this was my first attempt.



All the hardware is brass colored except for the feet. They are solid brass. I had some solid brass drawer pulls that I repurposed and machined into feet.









I made felt boards for the inside and friction fit them in instead of gluing them. Just in case a child decided to put something sloppy in there, they can just be popped out and cleaned or replaced.





It turned out pretty good and the box joints on the end set it off quite well. It was a fun little project.

Thanks man. However, post your projects. I'm sure they are just as good, if not better. This was just a simple box. One of my less involved projects. Seeing others craftsmanship inspires my own. The entertainment center I posted a few weeks ago was much more difficult and technical because of the compound joinery and the angles it entailed. The hardest part of this project was doing the box joints, getting them to look right and match up flush at the ends.

Nicely done. The carving looks great and the felt is a great touch. Just hope some kid doesn't put in something that poops or pees.
