For me,like Boco, the Walleye/Perch family can't be beat....especially by catfish. I'd never turn down walleye or perch. Wouldn't turn down catfish either.

Catfish are bottom feeders eating all the crap on the floor. ... no sir... I catch them on live bait well off the bottom... they’ll be where the baitfish are ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/01/full-105-164775-844ed639_85e6_4a11_b9c2_9e2ef387b184.jpeg)

Walleye is the American name for yellow pickerel. If you know how to easily remove the Y-bones, Northern pike is hard to beat. Walleye is also very good. If you ate big catfish in a lot of states you would have more mercury in you than a thermometer. I've heard that old wives tale my whole life. If the body of water is ripe with mercury (methylmercury to be precise), it will be present in every species of predatory fish, and fish eating mammals in equal concentrations. Catfish do not slurp up puddles of mercury from the bottom of the river or lake.

They should change the name of the fish when it hits market so people don’t realize it’s Catfish. The name ruins it for most people and when they Google Catfish and see whiskers, NOPE!!
Personally I'd prefer to allow the ignorant yanks to starve to death than change the name of a fish that is, and always has been excellent table fare.

Mercury accumulates. The bigger the fish(older) the more mercury they will have in them if they live in water where there is mercury in the food chain. You can eat fish that have mercury in them, you just have to watch how many meals you eat to be safe. You can eat more meals of smaller fish than you can from larger fish in the same water. The amount of meals should be more limited for children and women of childbearing age.Old geezers dont have to worry much about mercury in fish. Methyl mercury can be present naturally in wilderness waterways, not only from industrial contaminants. Mercury is not the only contaminent in fish.PCB's are also of concern-those are industrial pollutants that bio accumulate in the foodchain also.
Look up Minimata disease.
I think the banjo player in Deliverence eat too much big catfish.

Yes sir I'm glad you brought up crappie. Nothing better in my book. I went and caught a few one afternoon last week. Need to fry them up this weekend That's what we use for flathead bait, except those aren't big enough yet. I like them to be big enough to keep the rod tip throbbing. I do enjoy fried crappie even though they have the flavor of tap water. Bluegills are much tastier to me.

Are you turning Mexican Savell? And is that SKIM milk? Yep...covered the milk label (which could very well be soy, or nut "milk"), but forgot the gf label on the flour! Lol
